Abstract: In actuality the developing of hydraulic models to study the behavior of water is a very important issue for researchers, as the case of free discharge spillways. The work is performed under experimental conditions that allow them check their theories and calculations, but when it comes to models of advanced complexity, it is necessary to use other techniques to assessing trouble spots and they are difficult to analyze by calculations and laboratory experiences. Thanks to technological advances, it is possible to find computer programs to simulate and evaluate models of great complexity, obtaining results that support the thrown by tests. While these programs have been perfected as they are going to demand certain requirements and adjustments have been improved, but they need to check its reliability. This memory, seeks computationally represent the results obtained experimentally a channel that runs through an overflow of free discharge spillways (obstacle), which it was conducted in the laboratory of the Department of Hydraulic Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, which has the tools necessary for the development of experimental hydraulic models. The check is done using computational fluid dynamics techniques, as ANSYS Fluent program in its version 15.0.The ANSYS Fluent software is a computational tool to confidently predict the impact of fluid flow in complex hydraulic models. It has a number of options for creating geometries of different complexities, which they will be developed by setting the conditions to be submitted, to be processed and simulated to obtain results through their choice of post-processing. This memory compares the results in laboratory experience of hydraulics models, whit those obtained using the computational program, and then determined by analysis if the results are optimal and reliable. The development of this memory is part of the activities under the project Fondecyt Initiation n° 11140128, named "IMPROVEMENT OF DESIGN AND CHARACTERIZATION IN HYDRAULIC ELEMENTS THROUGH ADVANCED COMPUTATIONAL TECHNIQUES APPLIED TO WATER NETWORKS”.
