Por falta de información no se puede concluir si económicamente es factible el desarrollo de biocombustibles a partir de híbridos de álamo./ SUMMARY: The main objective of the study was to examine the feasibility technical and economic of using hybrid poplar (Populus sp.) in the production of biofuels in Chile. The analysis was focused on technical and economical terms. Information about the distribution of forest plantings and agricultural crops were carefully collected. Technical information about various types of biofuels and their characteristics was also gathered. Comparative analysis of the information available was used to determining the technical and economic feasibility of using poplar hybrids as raw material. Detailed description of the various industrial processes used to generate biofuels are also described. It is concluded that the biodiesel and biogas are the types of biofuels with the lowest potential for development by using poplar hybrids in Chile. On the contrary, the best alternatives for the use of poplar hybrids in the production of biofuels in Chile is the production of cellulosic ethanol and SunDiesel®. Chile has sufficient land for the establishment of bioenergy plantations. One can not conclude whether it is economically feasible to develop biofuels from poplar hybrids for incomplete informati
