Estudio del nivel de certificacion en productores de manzanas

Abstract

Chile actualmente es uno de los mayores exportadores de manzana en el mundo y el principal destino es Europa. Por lo que los productores han debido adaptarse a las numerosas exigencias impuestas por los diferentes mercados internacionales. Hoy en día la tendencia mundial de los consumidores, es a consumir alimentos inocuos y de calidad, que además sean producidos de manera sustentable. Para dar respuesta a estas demandas los diferentes supermercados han implementado sistemas de certificación voluntaria de Buenas Prácticas Agrícolas (BPA) para sus proveedores. Lo que ha provocado que los productores de manzana chilenos deban adquirir estas certificaciones para poder acreditar calidad e inocuidad, y así poder acceder a los mercados internacionales. Este estudio tiene como objetivo analizar la situación de los productores de manzanas en el país en términos de cómo abordar las diferentes certificaciones necesarias para exportar, evaluar los beneficios y costos que han de soportar en su aplicación. Con el fin de conseguir la opinión de los productores sobre el tema, se construyó un cuestionario de preguntas cerradas que posteriormente se envió por correo electrónico a una muestra de productores de manzanas. Los datos se analizaron en el programa Excel, calculando promedios, desviaciones estándar, frecuencias y coeficientes de correlación. El análisis mostró que no existe una correlación entre el tamaño del predio y el número de certificaciones que el agricultor pueda tener. Además los resultados mostraron que el beneficio más relevante de la certificación para el agricultor es el mayor acceso a mercados internacionales, y el obstáculo más importante para obtener la certificación es la alta inversión inicial requerida./ ABSTRACT:Chile is at present one of the biggest apple exporters in the world and its main destination is Europe. This is because Chile has needed to adapt to the numerous requirements imposed by the different international markets. Nowadays, the consumers' worldwide trend is to consume safe and quality foods that have been also manufactured in a sustainable way. In order to address all these requests, the different supermarkets have promoted a system of voluntary certification of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) for their suppliers. Chilean producers of apple should comply with these certifications to be able to credit quality and safety, and be able to enter the international markets. This study aims to analyze the situation of apple producers in the country in terms of how they address the different certifications necessary for exporting, assessing the costs and benefits that they have to bear in its implementation. In order to get the producers' opinion on the subject a questionnaire with closed questions was constructed and sent by email to a sample of apple producers. The data were analyzed in the program Excel, calculating averages, standard deviations, frequencies and correlation coefficient. The analysis showed that there is no correlation between the size of orchard and the number of certifications that a farmer can have. Moreover, the results also showed that the most relevant benefit for the farmer of the certification was the access to more markets worldwide, and that the most relevant constraint in incorporation protocols is the high initial investment it requires.
