Analisis del mercado del arroz

Abstract

El arroz es considerado un producto básico para más de la mitad de la población mundial debido a su alto valor energético. La producción de este cereal se concentra mayoritariamente en Asia, donde el 60% de la población lo considera como la principal fuente de alimentación. La producción nacional de arroz es inferior a la demanda lo que convierte a Chile en importador neto y, por lo tanto, en tomador de precios. El objetivo de este estudio fue realizar un análisis del mercado internacional y nacional del arroz, específicamente se buscó relacionar la evolución de la producción y productividad del mercado internacional del arroz con el comportamiento de las mismas variables en el mercado nacional y analizar las fluctuaciones de precio del mercado internacional y su incidencia en el mercado interno. Para llevar a cabo el estudio se recopiló información secundaria, específicamente literatura especializada y base de datos estadísticos. Posteriormente se realizó un análisis de tendencia a través del método de mínimos cuadrados y se estimó un cambio estructural a través del test de Chow. A partir del estudio es posible establecer que: La producción y productividad mundial han ido en alza, sin embargo durante los últimos años se han mantenido estable, creciendo a un ritmo más lento. Las disminuciones en producción se deben principalmente a cambios climáticos y menores superficies sembradas. A nivel nacional la producción se ha mantenido estable con una tendencia a la baja debido a una menor superficie, no así la productividad la cual tiende al alza debido a mejores prácticas productivas. Además los precios nacionales están influenciados por el comportamiento de los precios internacionales, ya que durante el año 2006 hubo un quiebre significativo en los precios mundiales lo que repercutió de la misma manera en los precios nacionales haciendo que estos subieran drásticamente. The production of this cereal is mostly concentrated in Asia, were 60 % of the population considers it as the main source of food. National rice production is inferior to the demand, which makes Chile a clear importer, and therefore, in a price taker. The main objective of this study was to perform an analysis in the international and national rice market, particularly to relate the evolution of production and productivity of the internacional rice market with the behaviour of the same variables in our national market and to analize the fluctuations of price of the international market and its effect in the internal market. To carry out the study, secundary information was compiled, particularly especialized literature and estatistical database. Subsequently was performed a tendency analysis trough the least squres method and it was considered an structural change trough the Chow test. From the study it is posible to afirm that: Worldwide production and productivity rises, however during the last years it has been stable, growing to a slower rythm. Production decrease are mainly due to climatic changes and less sown field. At a national level the production has maintained itself stable, with a tendency to decrase due to less surface, not so the productivity wich has a tendency to rise due to better productive practices. Besides national prices are influenced by the behaviour of international prices, because in 2006 there was a significant snap of world prices wich had an effect in the same way in national prices making these dramatically rise.
