Palabra clave: Selliera radicans ./Summary: Selliera radicans is a creeping plant native to Chile, which grows wild in places close to lakes, rivers, sea and rocks. It is an interesting species; it is used as meadow and requires nomowing because it is a small plant that grows no taller than 5 cm, it is resistant to the winterfrosts that occur in the Central Valley in Chile, it stands trampling, and has a beautiful foliage. Currently there are no reports or information regarding its reproductive propagation and phenology. On May 8th, 2010 mature capsules and mother plants of Selliera radicans were collectednear Vichuquén, from a private garden belonging to Ms. M. Vuscovich. Two pieces of groundcover of 800 cm2 were extracted and placed in two plastic trays of 989 cm 2 (43 x 23 cm). Thisresearch involved two studies: the first, to assess the effect of stratification (1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 weeks) and light (with and without light) on seeds germination rate of S. radicans. The second, isa preliminary pheno-morphological study of the plant. The results showed that the treatments with the best germination response were thosethat were stratified for 1, 2 and 3 week (s) and then exposed to continuous light, all of which reached 93.33% of germinated seeds, being 1 week of stratification the most appropriate period in saving time, energy and money. This treatment reached a peak of 6.8% of germinated seedsat the twelfth day of testing and a germination energy of 81.3%. The mortality rate was 5.3%.In the pheno-morphological study, mother plants were broken into stolon sectionsbearing 2 to 4 leaves (with their respective root) on May 11th, 2010, and were plantedimmediately. On September 8th, 60 successful new plants were transplanted individually toplastic trays (19.5 x 15.5 cm). Subsequently, 30 trays were placed inside an unheatedpolyethylene greenhouse, and the remaining (30), were placed outdoors, covered by a metalgrid. On these plants the vegetative growth was evaluated (order, number and length of stolon (s) and full coverage on the outdoors plants. The vegetative growth of S. radicans was assessed from September 8th, 2010 until January 2nd, 2011 (115 days). For this the process, the 60 plants were carefully removed, andthe order, number and length of stolon (s) was recorded. The results showed that the outdoorconditions promoted branching and originated stolons of different orders. On the other hand, those conditions did not stimulate the stolon growth in length, leading to more compact plants as compared with the plants that grew under greenhouse. The total coverage was measured on December 22nd, 2010 (after 105 days). 30 plants that were outdoors were photographed and with the help of the program AUTOCAD 2009, the ground coverage was determined. The initial average coverage was 3.05% and the final average coverage was 29.9%, resulting in an increase of 10 times the initial coverage. Flowering and fruiting of S. radicans were recorded in the mother plants contained in the remaining plastic tray. Measurements were performed every 3 days and consisted of a global count of cumulative number of flowers and fruits contained in the tray. The flowering began on December 1st, 2010 and ran until February 14th, 2011. The peak was recorded 27 days after the onset of flowering. On the other hand, the fruiting began on December 13th, 2010 and ran until February 23rd, 2011. To determine the number of seeds inside a capsule, 30 capsules were taken completely at random on February 25th, 2011, from the mother plants. The number of seeds contained in a fruit ranged between 16 and 38. Keyword: Selliera radicans
