This study presents a technical and economic analysis of the strawberries production with compost organic fertilization and conventional fertilization. To this effect, an essay located in Batuco, in Chanco was performed with three different strawberries varieties: Monterrey, San Andreas and Albión. Five treatments with three replications each were carried out and a randomized experimental design was utilized. The treatments used for this essay were T1 with 10 tons of compost/hectare, T2 with 20 tons of compost/hectare, T3 with traditional fertilization, T4 with 10 tons of compost/hectare plus traditional fertilization, and finally T5 with 20 tons of compost/hectare plus traditional fertilization. The economic analysis uses the Gross Margins (GM) of each treatment, which varies mainly because of yield, variable costs and the percentage of fruit to Agro-industry or fresh market. According to the results, there are no statistically significant differences among the fertilization treatments. At least in this essay, Monterrey is the variety in which the strawberry producer gets as the highest yield as the highest GM; whilst Albión is the one with the lowest performance and the lowest GM. The fertilization programs that generate the best GM were: For Albión the fertilization program with 10 tons of compost/hectare elaborate by its own cultivator; For Monterrey the traditional fertilization program; and for San Andreas, the fertilization program with 20 tons of compost/hectare elaborated by its own cultivator plus the traditional fertilization. According to the results, the fertilization with compost can supersede the traditional fertilization and is economically feasible for smaller and larger producers in a hectare of strawberry without diminish its GM.
